Free College Planning Seminar at Coronado High School: “Shrinking the Cost of College” – September 27, 2012

Manning Wealth Management and Fidelity Investments will host a college planning seminar at Coronado High School on Thursday, September 27, 2012. Topics to be covered by journalist Lynn O’Shaughnessy include, increasing college admission chances; how to determine expected family contributions; and why it is not just top students who earn significant financial aid and grants.

“Shrinking the Cost of College” is the title of the event to be will be held at the Theatre of Coronado High School, located on the corner of 6th Street and D Avenues in Coronado, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. The presentation is free of charge and open to the public.



Lynn O’Shaughnessy is a nationally recognized college expert, who is a higher-education journalist, consultant and speaker. Lynn is the author of numerous books including her Amazon bestseller: The College Solution: A Guide for Everyone Looking for the Right School at the Right Price. The second edition of The College Solution was released in May 2012.

At the University of California, San Diego Extension program, Lynn is the consulting director of college planning, K-12. In addition, Lynn provides popular presentations about college strategies for schools, nonprofits, companies and financial advisory firms.

As a popular college blogger, Lynn contributes regularly to her own college blog – The College Solution. She also writes a college blog for CBS MoneyWatch. A media contributor for many years, Lynn has written and/or been interviewed about college issues for such national outlets as The New York Times, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Consumer Reports, USA Today, Money Magazine and Parade Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Associated Press, MSN Money, Huffington Post, Fox Business News, Money Magazine, Smart Money and The Early Show on CBS.

Prior to focusing on college issues, Lynn was a veteran financial journalist who wrote for many consumer and financial industry publications such as BusinessWeek, Forbes, Money and Bloomberg publications. She has written three financial books, The Unofficial Guide to Investing (MacMillan), as well as Retirement Bible and Investing Bible (John Wiley & Sons). She ghost wrote two additional financial books, including one New York Times bestseller.

Lynn, a St. Louis native, is a graduate of the nation’s oldest journalism school at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Lynn and her husband are parents of two college aged children, both graduates of San Diego high schools.
